Modbury rolls out the barrows

This month has seen the return of Modbury’s unique Barrow Market and it’s bigger and better than ever. The pop-up market runs every Saturday from June to September and is open from 09:30 – 12:30.

Modbury Barrow Market
Situated behind the White Hart and Poundwell car park, this year’s market has been kitted out with gazebos to provide both sun and rain protection for the stall holders and customers. Last Saturday was really buzzing. Barrow holders had dressed the area with flags and bunting to give a festival flavour.  Barrow Market members are local producers and artisans, their products look very enticing.

Stunning displays of fresh-picked local vegetables looked like medal winners at a produce show. Tempting speciality pastries from a local Italian artisan baker were a reminder of the bustling Italian markets you stumble across on holiday.

Locally made pasties and quiches could be found near a WI stall brimming with home-made cakes, preserves and plants. Elsewhere, beautifully crafted belts featured buckles hand-wrought from metal reclaimed from wrecks around our coast, cute knitted creatures attracted children’s attention, while other stalls showed bags that combined fun with fashion. Health and beauty products, watercolours and cards by a local artist and many more all contributed to a bustling Saturday in Modbury.
